Aujourd'hui coup de coeur pour Whiskey & New-York de Julia Wertz, ou le bien mieux nommé en anglais : Drinking at the movies. La première qualité de cette BD de Julia Wertz que j'ai donc lue en anglais c'est de m'avoir fait énormément rigoler. L'auteur nous livre vraiment aussi bien une plume qu'un coup de crayon truculents.
Drinking at the movies raconte le déménagement de Julia de San Francisco à New York, à 25 ans. Les péripéties qui en découlent, sans rien vous en dévoiler, m'ont évoqué l'univers de la série 2 Broke Girls pour celles qui connaissent, et évidemment, surtout le personnage de Max (Kat Dennings). L'humour pince sans rire m'a aussi évoqué Juno (Ellen Page).
En bref, je ne m'y connais pas du tout en BD, mais Drinking at the movies je dirais que c'est à la BD ce que le cinéma indé est à Hollywood ! Alors si c'est votre univers, n'hésitez pas et foncez.
I've been reading on a regular basis lately, hence the books blog posts here, I hope you don't mind! Good thing is my latest read is actually in English, "Drinking at the movies" by the oh so talented Julia Wertz. This comic is the kind of read that made me want to buy everything else the author has written, before or after. I'm not familiar of comincs, much less indie comics, but really, I coudln't get enough of Julia Wertz's witty writing and her sketches. I loved her attention to detail, her sense of humor, "her" actually, because it seems like Julia Wertz did put a lot of herself into this comic.
Finally, although books, when turned into movies, are sometimes disappointing, I find myself wishing that Julia's adventures can be put on screen someday, with someone like actress Kat Dennings ("2 Broke Girls") or Ellen Page along for the ride. In the end, "Drinking at the movies" might make you feel like you wish you could hang out with Julia for a beer and pizza in New York!
